Stories, Socks & Jay Cloths
The first print in our Koestler Arts Editions series, Stories, Socks & Jay Cloths is from HM Prison and Young Offender Institution Low Newton. It was created by a group of women working with the art tutor to find a unique way to tell their individual stories. The original artwork features cloths, card, laminated paper and painted sections inscribed with the women’s texts, woven together with wool and string, to form a beautiful and touching artwork.
The piece was selected by guest curator, musician Soweto Kinch, for display in the 2019 Koestler Arts exhibition, Another Me, at Southbank Centre. It was one of the most popular works in the show. Understandably, the group wanted the original artwork back for display in the prison, to inspire others, so it was not offered for sale at the show. In response to the interest in this fantastic work, and in order to offer copies to the women involved, we have commissioned these gorgeous giclee prints.
