Koestler Exhibition for the East of England
Snape Maltings, Suffolk
1 – 31 August 2019
Entries to the 2019 Koestler Awards from the east of England will be eligible for selection for exhibition programme in partnership with Snape Maltings in Suffolk. The show will bring the voices of prisoners, secure patients, young offenders and detainees to the Snape Proms.
Eligible people should take part in the Koestler Awards using the usual entry forms and guidance notes for terms and conditions, but consider three additional themes in order to stand the best chance of selection.
The exhibition will have three sections. Each will respond to lyrics written by prisoners at HM Prison Warren Hill. We especially welcome entries to the 2019 Koestler Awards from participants currently based in the East region that respond to these lyrics.
Listen to the songs made at HM Prison Warren Hill below.
Who’s this person looking back at me. Is this who I really want to be?
(from Steppin’ Out, HM Prison Warren Hill, 2019)
Hear me now. I got something I’d like to say
(from Hear Me Now, HM Prison Warren Hill, 2019)
Lost in space but the sun shines
(from Satellites, HM Prison Warren Hill, 2019)
It’s helpful if you write the lyric that inspired your work on the back of the entry. If you want to make work not inspired by these lyrics, and are in the East region, you will still of course be considered for the exhibition as there will be a few spots for great works not related to the lyrics.
We’d also be grateful if you could write ‘East of England’ on the outside of the packages containing your artwork , as this will help us spot them quickly.
